Persistent rain in Brisbane meant Australia retained the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy on Friday.
A late downfall at the Gabba ended the deciding match in the one-day cricket series.
New Zealand needed 33 runs from 36 balls to beat a revised 20-over target of 156 with four wickets in hand, to win the series.
However, umpires Steve Bucknor and Rod Tucker pulled the stumps.
With the series deadlocked at 2-2, the wash-out means Australia will keep the trophy by courtesy of their 2-0 win last season.
