Asylum-seekers still in rooftop protest

9:42 pm on 21 September 2010

Eleven men are still on the roof of an Australian detention centre, protesting against their treatment as asylum-seekers.

The nine Sri Lankans and two Iraqis are calling for a review of their asylum applications and are angry about the treatment of a man from Fiji who jumped to his death.

Two of the men are believed to have harmed themselves since they climbed on the roof of Sydney's Villawood detention centre on Monday.

Immigration Minister Chris Bowen says the protest will have no bearing on the asylum-seekers' claims.
