Nine Chinese detainees are maintaining a protest on the roof of the Villawood immigration detention centre in Sydney.
The group has been protesting on the roof of the centre since 8am local time on Wednesday, demanding a speedy resolution to their application to stay in the country.
The ABC reports they want to speak to a high-ranking department official by midday Thursday.
Most of them are understood to have breached student visas.
A separate group of asylum seekers was earlier coaxed down.
A Fijian detainee, Josefa Rauluni, 36, jumped from a building and died on Monday.
