New Zealand's honorary consul in Pakistan has finally been able to speak with a New Zealand man detained by Pakistani security forces nearly two weeks ago.

Mark Taylor, 35, was taken into custody while en route to the Afghan border.

He was detained during a check on a bus bound for the South Waziristan region of Pakistan.

At the time of his arrest, Mr Taylor reportedly told soldiers he was going into the area to get married.

After efforts to see Mr Taylor over the past fortnight, the honorary consul has managed to talk to him by phone.

The New Zealand Government says Mr Taylor said he was being treated well and the news has been passed to his family.
