Severe locust plague expected

10:06 am on 2 October 2010

The Australian government says everything is being done to deal with what is predicted to be the worst locust plague in 75 years.

Federal agriculture minister Joe Ludwig is visiting rural regions in western New South Wales to see the preparations first hand.

The ABC reports 80,000 hectares are being sprayed in the region to target about 700km of locust bands.

Mr Ludwig says the number of reports of hatchings are increasing every day.
