The Sri Lankan cricket team has flown out of Pakistan after an ambush of their bus and its police escort in Lahore.

Six policemen and a driver were killed and eight people wounded, including six of the cricketers. The gunmen escaped.

The attack took place at the Liberty Square roundabout in the heart of the city as the team travelled to the Gaddafi stadium for the third day of a Test match against Pakistan at about 8.45am (local time) on Tuesday.

The International Cricket Council says it's unlikely international matches will be played in Pakistan in the foreseeable future.
