SANZAR says an expansion to the Super 14 rugby rugby series is not far away from being finalised.

The annual Super 14 competition currently features teams from South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

The organising group intends to prepare an offer to present to broadcasters by the end of June. The planned expansion would happen in 2011.

New Zealand Rugby Union chief executive Steve Tew says an expansion in the Super 14 series would see geographically based conferences, one in each country, and expanded finals.

The leading southern hemisphere nations are considering the possibility of Argentina joining the Tri-Nations Test series.

The Pumas are ranked fourth in the world and have been seeking entry to an annual top-flight competition.

An analysis is to be made of the viability of Argentina joining the Tri Nations series.
