NZ on top at world shearing champs

New Zealand has won most of the titles at the world shearing and woolhandling championships in Norway.

Paul Avery from Taranaki and John Kirpatrick from Napier were first and second respectively in the machine-shearing final and also won the teams final.

Taihape schoolteacher Sheree Alabaster and Joanne Kumeroa from Wanganui repeated the double in the woolhandling finals.

The New Zealand blade shearing team of Peter Race and Bill Michelle of Timaru finished third in the teams event.

Race was fifth in the individual final, won by South Africa.
