More than 100,000 tickets were sold in eight hours on the first day of sales for concerts to raise money for victims of the Victorian bushfires and Queensland floods.

Two benefit concerts will be held simultaneously in Sydney and Melbourne on 14 March.

Organisers said they were overwhelmed by the public support when the $A75 tickets went on sale on Wednesday.

They say the music industry is proud it can help add to the more than $A100 million raised for the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.

Kings of Leon and Coldplay will perform at the MCG in Melbourne and the SCG in Sydney. Midnight Oil and Split Enz will also be in Melbourne.
