North Korea holds parliamentary poll

9:48 pm on 8 March 2009

Voting for the North Korean Supreme People's Assembly has begun.

The outcome is a foregone conclusion, with each candidate elected unopposed.

There is some additional interest this year because it is rumoured that one of Kim Jong-il's sons - Kim Jong-un - is on the ballot. Speculation about the succession has mounted since Kim Jong-il was reported to have suffered a stroke last August.
