Iran's leader supports a unified Lebanon

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says his country supports a strong and unified Lebanon.

He made the comments during his first state visit to the country.

Mr Ahmadinejad's remarks come amid fears his visit could threaten Lebanon's fragile political stability, the BBC reports.

Crowds greeted the Iranian leader on his arrival in Beirut, mostly at the urging of the Lebanon based Islamist group Hezbollah.

The Hezbollah leader is expected to make a speech before Mr Ahmedinejad but it is not clear whether he will be appearing in person or by video link.
