The New South Wales state government has declared a natural disaster following floods in the Riverina district and the South-West Slopes.
The ABC reports more than 200 people were forced to flee their homes because of widespread flooding.
The declaration covers Wagga Wagga and Albury cities, Tumut, Tumbarumba, Greater Hume and Lockhart shires.
The State Emergency Service says conditions have eased across the state, but the town of Culcairn is still on alert.
SES says 15,000 sandbags have been sent there.
