The death toll from flooding in Thailand climbed to 32 on Saturday, as rising waters hit more areas of the kingdom and threatened to swamp parts of the capital.

The floods, which began on 10 October, cover large areas of the country. There is flooding in 30 of Thailand's 76 provinces.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation says homes or farms of more than 1.4 million people are submerged.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the flooding in Nakhon Ratchasima province 250km northeast of Bangkok, is the worst in 40 - 50 years. Twice as much rain had fallen compared with last year.
