Australia's Minister for Immigration Chris Bowens says Indonesia is sympathetic towards the Government's plan for a regional processing centre for asylum seekers, but it has not signed up yet.
The Australian Government wants to build a centre for up to 2000 asylum seekers on East Timor.
Mr Bowens told Sky News that Indonesia understands there needs to be a regional framework to deal with boat people.
Indonesia have said they recognise it's a regional problem, he said.
They want to work up the proposal. They're not going to sign up to a proposal now in the lead up to the Bali process, but they want us to be working very closely together.
