Terrritorial troops leave for RAMSI duties

8:50 am on 18 March 2009

Forty-four troops leave from Whenuapai air base on Wednesday for a four-month deployment in Solomon Islands.

The contingent will replace soldiers already stationed there with the Regional Assistance Mission (RAMSI).

Most are from the territorial force.

Their leader, Major Richard Palmer says they will continue dealing with the aftermath of flooding in the region in January.

He says the civilian skills that territorial force members bring often prove to be invaluable.
