Arrests in Athens over embassy bombs

4:22 pm on 2 November 2010

Police in Athens have arrested four people after uncovering a plot to send parcel bombs to President Nicolas Sarkozy of France and three foreign embassies in the Greek capital.

One of the bombs, addressed to the Mexican embassy in Athens, exploded in the offices of a private courier company, injuring one employee.

The BBC reports two other parcels were addressed to the Belgian and Dutch embassies.

Police say one of those arrested was a suspected member of a group that specialises in arson attacks on the offices and homes of politicians.
