Wave of deadly blasts rips through Baghdad

9:46 am on 3 November 2010

A wave of bomb explosions across Baghdad has killed at least 40 people and injured more than 300 others.

The blasts happened just hours after Iraqi Christians had held a funeral service for more than 50 people killed in last weekend's church hostage seige in the city.

Officials say at least 10 car and roadside bombs were detonated in the attacks, which appeared to target mainly busy Shia areas, near cafes and restaurants.

It's the first concerted show of force by insurgents for months, the BBc reports.
