The price of more than 20 basic household items in Fiji will drop from Saturday under a new price control order.

The Commerce Commission has lowered the price of items including cooking oil, powdered milk, liquid milk and garlic by 12% and rice by 14%.

Margarine and butter will fall in price by 10% and noodles by 20%.

Commerce Commission chairman Mahendra Reddy, says the commission found basic food items were exorbitantly costly, particularly of goods entering the country duty free.
