Thirteen people are dead and another 64 people have been admitted to hospital in Papua New Guinea following a suspected cholera outbreak on the island of Daru.
The National newspaper quotes the acting chief executive of Daru General Hospital, Dr Amos Lano, as saying that 260 people have been treated in the past three weeks.
Dr Lano says those who died were children who had suffered from acute diarrhoea, abdominal pain and vomiting.
He says authorities are waiting for the results of tests. In the meantime, he says, those with symptoms are being treated as cholera victims.
