Iraq suicide bomb kills 25 people

9:39 pm on 24 March 2009

A suicide bomb attack has killed 25 people in Iraq's volatile Diyala province.

The bomber blew himself up at a Kurdish funeral in the town of Jalawla, 115 km northeast of the capital Baghdad.

Police said 45 people were wounded when the bomb exploded in the densely packed crowd.

Earlier on Monday, a bomb at a west Baghdad bus terminal killed nine people and wounded 23, Iraqi police said.

It was the second bomb attack this month in the predominantly Sunni Arab district of Abu Ghraib.

US and Iraqi officials say violence in Iraq has fallen to lows not seen since mid-2003, but militants are still carrying out attacks, especially in the restive north, where al-Qaeda remains influential.
