One of the men convicted over the milk contamination scandal in China has lost his appeal against a death sentence.
Six babies died and more than 300,000 people became ill after drinking milk contaminated with the toxic chemical melamine. The chemical was used to cheat protein tests in milk and was a widespread industry practice.
Geng Jinping worked for the milk producer San Lu, one of the companies that sold the contaminated product. He will be executed if the Supreme Court approves the lower court's decision.
Separately, another court has agreed to hear the first compensation claim from a parent against San Lu.
A number of parents have rejected a government-sponsored compensation scheme, saying it is inadequate and does not do enough to address the long-term health risks resulting from the poisoning.
