Children spurred businessman into hostage role

A London businessman who reportedly negotiated the release of a kidnapped British couple says he did it because his children said they felt ashamed when they watched the couple's appeals on television.

Paul and Rachel Chandler were freed on Sunday after a ransom believed to be $1.3 million was paid to Somali pirates who hijacked their yacht near the Seychelles a year ago.

Dahir Ablatio Kadiye, who owns a private security firm, says he took on the job of hostage negotiator six months ago because of what his children said.

The Chandlers are now in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on their way home to Britain.
