Marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie has reversed his decision to retire and will continue to run competitively.

The Ethiopian athlete announced he was quitting athletics earlier in November after dropping out of his first New York marathon because of a knee injury.

Gebreselassie, 37, was in Ethiopia last weekend as celebrity starter for an annual 10km run and told officials that he will continue to run as long as he is healthy, Reuters reports.

Ethiopian television reported that Gebrselassie said he would continue to prepare for the London Olympics in 2012.
