Fewer and fewer job ads in Australia

5:06 pm on 6 April 2009

The number of job advertisements in Australia has fallen by nearly half in 12 months.

The ANZ bank's monthly survey shows that the number of situations vacant online and in newspapers dropped by 8.5% per during March, bringing the decline since March 2008 to almost 45%.

It's the 10th consecutive monthly fall and ANZ senior economist Katie Dean sees no early reversal: employment growth is likely to remain weak if not negative over the next six months, she says.
