Research led by scientists at Oxford University in Britain suggests a small daily dose of aspirin can reduce a person's risk of dying from a range of common cancers by at least 20%.

The researchers came to that conclusion after monitoring 25,000 patients who took the drug every day.

They say those taking aspirin had a significantly reduced risk of death from bowel, lung, prostate and oesophageal cancers.

The key to the discovery is aspirin's special ingredient - salicylic acid.
