US eases restrictions on travel to Cuba

The United States is easing restrictions on travel and sending money to Cuba.

President Barack Obama has raised the possibility of regular flights between the countries, and will encourage US telecommunications firms to seek Cuban licences.

Last week, an unofficial delegation of US members of Congress to Cuba met President Raul Castro and had a surprise audience with previous president Fidel Castro.

The US has imposed a commercial blockade on Cuba since the Communist revolution that brought Fidel Castro to power in 1959.
