Thousands of fans at 'Oprah House'

5:31 am on 15 December 2010

Thousands of Oprah Winfrey fans descended on the Sydney Opera House ahead of the taping of two special shows by the US talk show host.

Some 12,000 people were chosen by a lottery to attend the shows featuring US musicians Bon Jovi and Jay-Z, as well as Australian stars Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman and Olivia Newton-John.

The episodes will wrap up Winfrey's final season on air, the ABC reports.

The American TV star has been in Sydney since last week, an audience of 302 American fans travelling with her, to film the programme's 25th season.

Australian authorities put the Sydney Opera House under tight security in preparation for the filming.

Some roads leading to the venue were closed and a maritime exclusion zone has also been put in place.

The recordings at the Opera House - or Oprah House as it has been dubbed by some - will be broadcast to 145 countries.
