Australian Govt committed to ETS

1:59 pm on 19 April 2009

Federal Climate Change Minister Penny Wong says she is determined to push ahead with a proposed emissions trading scheme in Australia - despite strengthening opposition to the plan.

The Federal Opposition, the Greens and independent Senator Nick Xenophon say there are significant problems with the scheme.

The ABC reports the Government's former climate change adviser, Professor Ross Garnaut, has also criticised the plan, saying it may be better to dump it because there are so many flaws.

But Senator Wong has told Channel Ten the Government made a commitment to the public to act on climate change concerns.
