At least seven people have been killed in an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 in south-eastern Iran.

Iranian state television is reporting that at least three villages have been destroyed in the Monday quake.

The epicentre was near the city of Bam, in Kerman province, but a news agency says the quake was also felt in Sistan-Baluchestan province, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The official IRNA news agency says nine aftershocks have occurred since the main quake, including one of 5.0.

About 31,000 people were killed when an earthquake razed Bam in 2003.
