A suspected bomb has been found on the underground railway network in Rome, but police say it would not have exploded.

The device was discovered by a railway employee inside an abandoned bag at the Rebibbia metro station after the morning rush-hour.

Police say it contained explosive powder, but had no detonator and could not have gone off.
