Cricket fans and police clash over tickets

Cricket fans clashed with police in Bangladesh when tickets for 2011 World Cup matches went on sale at banks across the country.

Eight matches in the series from 19 February - 2 April will be held there.

The tournament is being jointly hosted with India and Sri Lanka.

Tickets were being sold at 80 branches of two banks. Thousands of people queued from Saturday morning onwards: some lines were more than 1km long.

Chaos broke out once sales began and the police had to intervene.

In the capital Dhaka, disappointed fans set fire to cars.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board apologised on Saturday as most of the fans will be deprived of a ticket.
