Russian news agencies report a Russian warship has captured a suspected pirate vessel with 29 people on board off the coast of Somalia.

Interfax and RIA Novosti report that the Admiral Panteleyev anti-submarine ship seized the vessel 24km off the coast of Somalia at 1212 GMT on Tuesday.

Satellite navigation equipment, seven Kalashnikov rifles, pistols and a large amount of ammunition were seized.

RIA reported the pirates were believed to be involved in two unsuccessful attempts to seize a tanker with a Russian crew that travelled through the region the day before.
