Renault says espionage threatens company assets

6:24 am on 7 January 2011

French car maker Renault says suspected industrial espionage poses a serious threat to the company.

Renault has suspended three senior managers in connection with the leaks, including a member of its management committee.

The firm, along with its Japanese partner Nissan, is investing heavily in a range of electric cars that it plans to launch later this year.

French Industry Minister Eric Besson says the industrial espionage at Renault means his country is facing an economic war, while the firm said it endangered the company's assets.

The French government owns 15% of Renault.
