Two packages have exploded in the mail rooms of state government buildings in Maryland, in the United States

A federal law enforcement official said one was in the mailroom of the Maryland Department of Transport facility in Hanover while the other was in a mail-handling facility in a state building in Annapolis.

The official said the packages detonated, erupting into smoke and flames, but no one was hurt or seriously injured and no one was taken to hospital.

The official said the Maryland state police was the lead agency investigating, and that the FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies were assisting.
