Security forces in Niger are holding prisoner two men who they believe were among an al Qaeda group that kidnapped and killed two French nationals at the weekend.
The two Frenchmen were found dead after a attempt to rescue them on Saturday, failed.
They were abducted from a bar in Niamey, the capital of Niger, on Friday night, bringing to eight the number of French people kidnapped in Niger since last April.
French Prime Minister Francois Fillon said on Monday he was almost certain that al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb was behind the incident.
AQIM also killed a French tourist in July after kidnapping him in Niger three months earlier.
