A suicide car bomber has rammed a heavily fortified police station in north-west Pakistan.
At least 17 people were killed and up to 20 others were wounded at the Merian police station in Bannu district on Wednesday.
Witnesses said parts of the building and a mosque inside the compound had collapsed.
The Pakistani Taliban said it carried out the attack to avenge drone raids.
Police told the BBC the bomber had rammed the outer wall of the police
station, which is in a densely populated area.
More than 50 officers were in the station at the time of the attack.
Pakistan Television Corporation reported that all the dead were members of the Frontier Corps, a federal paramilitary police force.
