Intel has posted a rise of 48% in quarterly net profits, as strong sales of server microprocessors offset weak demand for chips used in personal computers.

Intel said 2010 was the best year in its history.
The BBC reports sales of Intel's microchips for data centres were up 15% in October-December, while those for PCs were flat.
For 2010 as a whole, Intel's net profit totalled $US11.7 billion, up from $US4.4 billion in 2009.
