Iraqi soldier kills two US soldiers in Mosul

10:43 am on 16 January 2011

Two American soldiers were killed and a third injured when an Iraqi soldier opened fire on US troops during training in the northern city of Mosul on Saturday, the United States military says.

The incident occurred while US soldiers were training Iraqi security forces at al-Ghazlani US military camp in southern Mosul, 390 km north of Baghdad.

The US military says the Iraqi soldier who had opened fire was killed during the incident.

A third American service member was wounded.

Separately, another American service member was killed while conducting operations in central Iraq, but the military statement gave no further details.

Fewer than 50,000 US troops remain in Iraq since the United States officially ended combat operations last August.
