Book lovers unite in library protest

11:14 am on 16 January 2011

People in a town in Britain have borrowed every book in their local library in an attempt to stop it being closed.

Over several days, residents in Stony Stratford in Buckinghamshire have been taking home their maximum allowance of 15 books, and now all 16,000 of the library's volumes are out on loan.

The protest was organised via the social networking site Facebook and at one stage nearly 380 books were being checked out every hour, the BBC reports.
