President Dmitri Medvedev has reiterated Russia's recognition and support of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
After talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Jericho, Mr Medvedev said Russia recognised the state in 1988 and his country's position remained unchanged.
"Russia ... will support the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to an independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem," he said.
Mr Medvedev is due to meet King Abdullah of Jordan in Amman on Wednesday.
He had been due to go to Israel, but the plans were shelved after Israeli foreign ministry staff went on strike.
The BBC reports the Quartet of Middle East peace mediators - the UN, United States, the European Union and Russia - will meet next month to discuss the peace process.
