Flood cost to agriculture sector put in billions

9:50 pm on 25 January 2011

The Victorian government says the Australian state's flood disaster could cost the agricultural sector up to $A2 billion in damages and lost production.

Nearly 60% of the inundated land has been surveyed. The government says at least 6000 sheep have died and another 1800 are missing, the ABC reports.

Some 2000km of fencing and 92,000 hectares of pasture and field crops have been destroyed.
