The United Nations says several dozen civilians were killed last weekend in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The killings took place in villages in Sud-Kivu province, 80km - 100km northwest of Bukavu city.

The attacks were blamed on Rwandan Hutu rebels.

Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda have reportedly been fighting Congolese forces.
