Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat Roger Federer in an upset win in the Australian Tennis Open semi-finals on Thursday.

The third seed won 7-6 7-5 6-4, leaving the defending champion without a grand slam title for the first time in eight years.

"I just ran into a player who was a bit better than me tonight," said Federer, 29, afterwards.

Djokovic, 23, will play Andy Murray or Spaniard David Ferrer of Spain.

Ninth seed Li Na, 28, beat world number one Caroline Wozniacki in three sets, 3-6 7-5 6-3.

She will play Kim Clijsters in the final on Sunday, becoming the first Chinese woman to reach a grand slam singles final.

Clijsters beat Vera Zvonareva 6-3 6-3.

"It's a nice feeling knowing there's only one more match to play," she said.
