At least eight people have been killed in a suicide attack at a supermarket popular with foreigners in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.

Police said the bomber opened fire in the store before detonating his explosives.

Afghans and foreigners, including two women and a child, were among the dead. The Taliban said it had carried out the attack.

The BBC reports the blast left the store ablaze.

Earlier this month in Kabul, at least four people died when a suicide bomber rode his motorcycle into a bus carrying security forces.
