Bomb toll in Baghdad rises

7:31 am on 21 May 2009

A bomb in a parked car has killed 35 people and wounded 72 others in northwest Baghdad.

The explosion happened near a popular restaurant in the Shula quarter.

The last large-scale bombing was on 29 April, when 51 people were killed in twin car bomb attacks in the Sadr City district.

Security has broadly improved in Iraq since last year, but there was a rash of bombings in April: 355 people were killed.
