India and Pakistan to go back to peace talks

6:27 am on 11 February 2011

India and Pakistan have agreed to resume formal peace talks.

Dialogue was broken off after the attack on Mumbai in 2008, in which 166 people were killed.

India blamed the attack on militants from Pakistan.

Indian officials say the decision to resume peace negotiations was taken at talks between Indian and Pakistani representatives in Bhutan this week.

The two countries say they have agreed to discuss all issues, the BBC reports.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister will visit Delhi by July. Before that, senior Government officials will sit down together to discuss counter-terrorism.

Discussions will also focus on Kashmir, the Himalayan region that both countries claim and which is at the heart of their dispute.
