United States-led forces in Afghanistan say 19 people have been killed and almost 50 injured in a Taliban attack in the southern city of Kandahar.
They say three suicide bombers backed by gunmen targeted the compound of the provincial police headquarters.
As emergency workers rushed to the scene, a car bomb exploded, causing further casualties.
Most of the dead were policemen. Almost half those injured were
civilians, including nine children.
Kandahar is the birthplace of the Taliban.
