Another cyclone heads for Australia

8:16 pm on 16 February 2011

Australians in the north of the Northern Territory are preparing themselves for a cyclone which is expected to hit in the next 24 hours.

The bad weather has already forced the closure of Darwin's airport and more than 300mm of rain has fallen since Tuesday morning.

The wild weather has signalled the arrival of a tropical low which is situated south-west of Darwin and moving north, the ABC reports.

It is just two weeks since Cyclone Yasi wreaked havoc across northern Queensland.

The Weather Bureau says it has been a rough night for the city and surrounds.

A second cyclone is brewing off the north-west coast of Western Australia.
