Israel says Iran is due to send two warships through the Suez Canal into the Mediterranean Sea.
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has called the move a provocation that can not be ignored.
He says the warships are heading for Syria, which has not happened for many years the BBC reports.
Reports last month said Iran's navy planned to send a fleet to the Mediterranean Sea for a year.
