Egypt expected to lift emergency laws within six months

A judicial council formed by Egypt's military rulers and entrusted with proposing constitutional changes to allow free and fair elections says it has nearly finished its work.

The head of the council said the public would get a progress report on Sunday.

Officials say Egypt will lift its emergency laws within six months.

Cancellation of the 30-year state of emergency was one of the main demands of protesters who toppled President Hosni Mubarak from power.
